Hose (Peristaltic) Pump

Hose (Peristaltic) Pump

Hose (peristaltic) pumps are positive displacement pumps that move fluids through a flexible hose by compression and relaxation. They are ideal for precise, contamination-free transfer of liquids, including viscous, abrasive, or sensitive media.

Overview

A hose (peristaltic) pump is a type of positive displacement pump in which the fluid is contained within a flexible hose or tube installed inside the pump casing. The fluid never contacts any moving mechanical parts.

Operating Principle

The pumping action is based on the principle of peristalsis. Rollers or shoes compress the hose as they rotate, pushing the fluid forward. When the hose relaxes, it creates a vacuum that draws new fluid into the hose.

Main Characteristics

  • Positive displacement pumping with accurate flow control
  • Fluid only contacts the hose, ensuring contamination-free operation
  • Self-priming capability
  • Capable of handling viscous, abrasive, and shear-sensitive fluids

Applications

  • Chemical and process industries
  • Water and wastewater treatment
  • Food and beverage processing
  • Pharmaceutical and medical applications
  • Slurry, sludge, and abrasive fluid transfer
