Pressure Reducing Valve

Pressure Reducing Valve

Pressure Reducing Valves designed to control and limit excessive system pressure, protecting fire protection equipment and ensuring stable operation across different zones.

Overview

Pressure Reducing Valves (PRV) are essential components in fire protection systems, used to reduce and regulate excessive water pressure within the system. These valves help maintain design pressures, protect system components, and improve overall system reliability.

Purpose & Function (As Provided)

Pressure reducing valves are used when system pressure exceeds allowable limits. After hydraulic calculations are completed, the design pressure for each zone is determined. Fire pumps are typically selected based on the highest pressure requirement, and pressure reducing valves are then used to adjust pressure levels in other areas of the system.

System Protection Benefits (As Provided)

  • Extends the service life of system equipment
  • Prevents unnecessary water loss from storage tanks
  • Reduces damage caused by excessive operating pressure
  • Ensures stable and controlled water delivery

Installation & Adjustment Requirements (As Provided)

Pressure gauges (manometers) must be installed both upstream and downstream of the valve to monitor inlet and outlet pressures. A relief valve with a minimum size of ½” must be installed downstream of the pressure reducing valve, provided that it is not smaller than the main relief valve. The relief valve setting pressure must not exceed 12.1 bar.

Connection Types (As Provided)

  • Threaded
  • Flanged
  • Grooved

Input & Output Pressure Ranges (As Provided)

  • Input Pressure: 175 psi – Output Adjustment: 30–165 psi
  • Input Pressure: 300 psi – Output Adjustment: 30–165 psi

Technical Specifications (As Provided)

  • Maximum Working Temperature: 82°C

Available Dimensions (As Provided)

  • Threaded: 1½” – 3”
  • Flanged: 1½” – 10”
  • Grooved: 1½” – 8”

Material Features (As Provided)

  • Body & Cover: ASTM A536 Nodular Cast Iron
  • Valve Inner Parts: Bronze ASTM B61
  • Pilot Control Valve & System: Bronze ASTM B62 with Stainless Steel 303 inner parts
  • Valve Diaphragm: Buna-N Neoprene

Application Areas (As Provided)

Pressure reducing valves are suitable for fire protection systems where hydraulic calculations indicate the need for pressure adjustment between different zones or sections of the installation.

Approvals & Certifications (As Provided)

  • UL Listed
  • ULc Listed

Operational Benefits

  • Maintains safe operating pressure levels
  • Protects piping, valves, and sprinkler components
  • Improves system efficiency and longevity
  • Supports accurate hydraulic balancing
  • Complies with international fire protection standards
